Coach Williams is a North San Diego County native. He attended La Costa Canyon High School where he was coached by Dwayne Buth. Coach Williams was a three-time California state placer, a California State Champion, a two-time high school All-American and placed 6th at Senior Nationals. He was named the SD Sections Wrestler of the Year in 2004. Coach Williams has extensive Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling experience. He was an AAU Cadet National Freestyle Champion as well as winning five California Freestyle State Championships as a member of the Encinitas Mat Rats coached by Brett Moore. He was a 2 time Greco-Roman State Champion and he placed 3rd at the Western States Regional Freestyle Championships. He was also a Western States Regional Greco-Roman Champion as a member of the No Mercy School of Wrestling, coached by Ruben Leon.
Coach Williams wrestled four years in college at the Division I level where he attended the University of Missouri and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo on wrestling scholarships and placed 5th at the PAC 10 Championships. After his competitive career, Coach Williams made the successful transition to coaching and served as the Assistant Varsity Wrestling Coach at La Costa Canyon High School from December 2008 until March 2012 when he was hired as the San Marcos Head Coach.
Since Coach Williams took over as the Boys Head Coach, he has compiled a 82-26 dual meet record, won seven League Titles and led the team to three CIF D1 Dual Championships, three D1 CIF Tournament Championship, 2 CIF D1 Tournament Team Runner Up, and 7 top 5 finishes at the SD Masters Tournament and numerous individual Masters and CIF Champions. Coach Williams has been named Coach of the Year twice at San Marcos High School.
In 2019, Coach Williams started the Girls wrestling team and became the Directing of Wrestling Operations and serves as both the Boys and Girls Varsity Head Coach. Since starting the Girls team, Coach Williams coached the girls team to 3 North County Conference Championships, a Runner Up at the CIF Championsips, 2 top 3 team finish at the Masters Championship, 2 top 5 team Masters Masters finishes, 2 state madalist, 11 girl state qualifiers, 6 Masters Champions and 8 CIF Champions.
In his 16 years as a coach, Coach Williams has coached two State Champions, a state Runner Up, four state placers, 45 state qualifiers,19 Masters Champions and numerous CIF Champions. He has coached eight CIF Championship teams, 4 team CIF runner up finishes, 3 Girls North County Conference Championship and 11 team League Championships.
In 2011 Coach Williams was selected by the San Diego Hall of Champions as one of the top 50 Winter Olympic sport athletes in the sections history.
Coach Williams earned his Bachelor's degree in History from Cal Poly-SLO and his Master of Arts degree in Education with Honors from Azusa Pacific University. Coach Williams is a member of the Pi Lambda Theta National Honor Society for educators. Coach Williams is a History Teacher at San Marcos High School.
