PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY
We at San Marcos believe a coach can be a very positive influence in a young person’s life.
We believe it is a coach’s responsibility to provide a positive role model for our wrestlers to emulate. We believe it is not only a coach’s responsibility to teach solid fundamental wrestling techniques, but it is also a coaches responsibility to teach life lessons that wrestlers can use in all aspects of life. The sport of wrestling is an excellent vehicle to teach these lessons. Learning solid wrestling skills is a byproduct of the lessons. We stress teamwork, responsibility, initiative, discipline, courage, sportsmanship, leadership, a commitment to each other, and a strong work ethic.
WHAT MAKES A SUCCESSFUL WRESTLING PROGRAM?
- Develop all wrestlers.
- Have high expectations.
- Commit to give 100 percent in everything we do.
- Have a positive attitude.
- Wrestlers and coaches put the team ahead of themselves.
- Teach and perform sound wrestling techniques.
- Strong parental support.
- Develop a sense of family within the team.
- Show a genuine caring for each other.
- Hard work.
- Discipline.
- Solid coaching.
- Everyone on the team treats everyone else with respect.
